LIZ FISHER

Liz Fisher is a director and artistic leader whose work spans new play development, reimagined classics, and interdisciplinary performance. Across genres, forms, and theatrical traditions, she brings a consistent artistic vision rooted in rigorous storytelling, inventive theatricality, emotional precision, and deep collaboration. Her work explores the evolving relationship between artists, audiences, and the stories we tell. Her work has been seen across the United States and Europe.

Her directing credits include collaborations with the Kennedy Center, Chautauqua Theater Company, Pittsburgh Public Theater, Palm Beach Dramaworks, National Black Theatre, Fusebox Festival, The Tank (NYC), ZACH Theater, Penfold Theatre, the University of Texas at Austin, James Madison University, the University of Arkansas, and other producing organizations and universities throughout the United States. She has directed world premieres, developed new plays alongside playwrights from early workshops through production, and reimagined canonical works through contemporary performance practices.

Liz has been invited to residencies across the United States and internationally to develop new plays, interactive performance, and technology-driven theatrical experiences, including The Playwrights’ Center, The Orchard Project, and the National Winter Playwrights Retreat. Her work exploring immersive and digital performance has been presented on the Emmys OTT platform and recognized by Broadway On Demand’s Stage/Screen Festival. She is a Drama League FutureNow Fellow and alumna, a recipient of the Princess Grace Award in Theatre, the Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation’s National Directing Award, and a directing fellow at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center.

As an arts leader, Liz has founded new artistic initiatives while helping steward established institutions through periods of growth and transformation. Her producing experience spans new play development, interdisciplinary festivals, season planning, and artist development, bringing together creative vision, institutional strategy, and collaborative leadership to create the conditions for ambitious artistic work to thrive.

Liz’s leadership extends beyond artistic production to cultivating dialogue, mentorship, and creative exchange across the field. She has taught and served as a professor and guest artist at universities nationwide, partnered with playwrights as a dramaturg and collaborator on new work, published scholarship on directing and interactive performance, and delivered invited talks at TEDx, SXSW Interactive, and professional conferences. She continues to maintain an active career as an award-winning actor, with film credits premiering at the Venice Film Festival and SXSW.
